The audit was conducted from 24 to 26 March 2026.
Objective
The objective was to verify that Equinor’s management and follow-up of the operation of Valemon within the domains of technical safety, process safety and automation comply with the company’s own and the authorities’ requirements, so as to reduce the likelihood of failures. In addition, we monitored the onshore control room and how coordination with its control of offshore wind supplying the Snorre/Gullfaks fields was working.
Result
We identified five non-conformities during the audit. These concerned:
- Inadequate monitoring of alarm systems in the central control room
- Failure to update the HMI system in the central control room
- Deficiencies in the monitoring of process safety functions
- Deficient updating of documentation
- Deficient response time of firewater system
We also identified two improvement points. These concerned:
- The total risk analysis does not provide a sufficiently comprehensive picture of risk
- Shortcomings in meeting the company’s criteria for conducting a new total risk analysis
What happens now?
We have asked Equinor to report to us by 19 June 2026 on how the non-conformities will be addressed and for their assessment of the improvement points observed.
