On 31 August 2017, we carried out an audit of Statoil Mongstad's follow-up of alarm load, human factors and training programmes for operators in the main control room at Mongstad.

Objective

The objective was to gather information about the measures Statoil has implemented to rectify regulatory non-conformities and areas with improvement potential identified in our previous audit report of 20 May 2016 and assess the effect of our previous audit.

Result

Following the previous audit, Statoil implemented an alarm rationalisation project which is expected to contribute positively to a systematic review of the alarms.

The audit identified one non-conformity relating to poor placement of a vent.

In addition, improvement points were identified in connection with:

  • Use of Synergi in non-conformity reporting
  • Statoil's governing documents dealing with follow-up of alarm systems.

We have asked Statoil for feedback on how they are addressing these issues by 13 October 2017.
