The study has identified and mapped risk elements related to the connection and integration of new subsea facilities with existing installations. The work is intended to be useful for learning and improvement on the part of both the industry and the authorities, and as a basis for any in-depth studies.

The risk elements are defined within the three main groups of subsea facilities, host facilities and the interface between the two.

Attention is focused on process safety and structural safety related to modifications to the host facility.

Subsea facilities are included because it is crucial to look at such developments as a single, coherent system and because the cause of risk situations on the host facility side is based on a lack of system understanding and incidents in upstream facilities (e.g. wells, SPS or SURF).

Priority area

Havtil works assiduously on continuous improvement of our risk-based follow-up of activities. There are many subsea facilities in the planning and implementation phases. The activities in the implementation phase will have an impact on the future progress of the projects, and on safe start-up and operation.

Relevant project reports

Havtil has previously conducted two studies on indicators of HSE challenges in development projects. The study in 2021 addressed the planning phase (pre-PDO), and the one in 2023 the implementation phase, which may be indicative of future progress in the projects and how this can affect safe start-up and operation. The work presented here is based on these.
