The report is a tool for determining best practice for preventing and addressing insider risk in one’s own company. The report also contains a checklist that can be used as a simple maturity survey in order to discover how well the company is equipped to handle a possible insider threat.

Background
On various occasions, insider risk has been highlighted as a threat by, among others, the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), the National Security Authority (NSM) and the Norwegian Business and Industry Security Council (NSR). At the same time, audits show that the petroleum industry finds insider threat difficult to deal with.
The report is based on information and input from workshops with the companies, in-depth interviews and a literature review.
