The audit was conducted from 12 to 15 November 2024 with assistance from the Civil Aviation Authority Norway.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to verify processes and systems that contribute to ensuring the comprehensive management of emergency preparedness, and to verify that the helideck complies with regulatory requirements in order to help ensure safe helicopter operations and personnel transport.

Result

Fourteen non-conformities were identified, concerning:

  • Lifeboats
  • Lifeboat coxswain competence
  • Communication in central control room, emergency room and driller’s cabin during incidents
  • Training of the emergency response organisation on board
  • Helideck documentation
  • Paint
  • Drainage at stairwells
  • Gutter around helideck
  • 180° obstacle-free sector
  • Obstacles in 210° obstacle-free approach and take-off sector
  • Marking of helideck size and maximum allowable mass
  • Marking of obstacles on helideck
  • Helideck lighting
  • Firefighting equipment

In addition, four improvement points were identified, concerning:

  • Marking of escape route
  • Equipment in fire stations
  • Obstructions outside the 210° obstacle-free approach and take-off sector
  • Obstacle lights

What happens next?

We have asked Vår Energi to report to us on how the non-conformities will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points observed. The deadline for this is set at 21 January 2025.
