Equinor – Johan Castberg – project audit

The audit was conducted from 12 to 14 February 2024.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to follow up on how Equinor ensures that electrical systems, safety instrumented systems and industrial ICT security meet relevant regulatory requirements, recognised standards and guidelines.  We also wanted to follow up the company’s own requirements and principles for such systems for the Johan Castberg FPSO – with the purpose of achieving safe implementation, handover and start-up of the facility.

Follow-up of non-conformities

As stated in our audit notice, as part of this audit, we verified how the company has addressed specific previously identified non-conformities and resulting orders.  We found that the following non-conformity had not been addressed in line with the company’s feedback:

• Non-conformity concerning “Ignition source deactivation” from Chapter 5.1.3 of the report following the audit of 2.12.2022.

Result

We did not identify any non-conformities during this audit, but observed three improvement points.  These concerned:

• Sharing of experiential learning within the company
• Follow-up of prerequisites defined for manning
• Electrical facilities – technical condition

What happens next?

We have asked Equinor to report by 19 April 2024 on how follow-up of the previous non-conformity will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points observed.
