The audit was conducted on 23 and 24 January 2024.
Background
The background to the audit was the major accident potential associated with the operation of flexible pipes. There have been, and still are, many incidents and technical challenges associated with flexible pipes. As a result, we have engaged over a number of years in the close monitoring of flexible pipes, and the companies, suppliers and standards involved.
The Troll field has experienced challenges with the pressure barrier in the static flexible pipes. These are pipes that have been operated over many years, some with extended operating lives. There have been cases of leaks, notably in November 2022.
Objective
The objective of the audit was to monitor Equinor’s operation and follow-up of static flexible pipes at the Troll B and Troll C facilities, and how the company plans and implements maintenance and ensures the integrity of these pipes. We wanted to ensure that there is a holistic approach to safe operation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Result
The audit identified no non-conformities or improvement points.
