The audit was conducted from 30 May to 2 June 2023.

Background

Since 2017, we have undertaken activities within both these disciplines, through meetings and audits of the Johan Castberg project. During this audit, the project was in an assembly and completion phase. The audit covered the entire facility, including living quarters, topside, hull and turret.

We have previously conducted audits that identified non-conformities and improvement points. Prior observations were included in this audit to ensure that they had been taken on board and addressed in accordance with answers previously given to us. We also verified that adopted solutions are, or will be, regulatorily compliant.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to follow up Equinor’s management of the project, to ensure that it complies with regulatory requirements within logistics and the working environment. We also followed up the involvement of the operational organisation in the project work, and preparations for operation, with the aim of reducing the likelihood of future failure, hazard and accident situations.

Result

We identified four non-conformities during the audit. These concerned:

  • Materials handling and transport
  • Working environment analyses
  • Chemicals and chemical exposure
  • Ergonomic design

We also identified four improvement points, concerning:

  • Offshore cranes as elements of contingency plans
  • Employee participation
  • Continuous improvement
  • Non-conformity handling

What happens next?

We have asked Equinor to report on how the non-conformities will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points identified. The reply deadline is set at 18 August 2023.
