The audit was conducted from 12 to 16 September 2022.

Background

The audit formed part of our planned activities for 2022 for the prevention of acute personal injuries related to crane and lifting operations, falling objects and equipment maintenance. The audit also comprised drilling contractor KCA Deutag, as well as equipment that they operated on board Kvitebjørn.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to examine the management of activities relating to materials handling on board and in the drilling area. The audit followed up the handling and maintenance of lifting equipment, and included verification of whether planning and execution of logistics operations complied with the requirements.

Result

The audit identified three non-conformities. These concerned:

  • Emergency operation system for offshore cranes using personnel lift
  • Drill floor manipulator arm
  • Competence requirements for lifting equipment technical responsible persons

We also observed two factors we have chosen to categorise as improvement points. These comprised:

  • Maintenance of lifting equipment – checking of wire rope
  • Acquisition of Hydrobull workshop crane

What happens now?

We have asked Equinor to report to us by 9 November 2022 on how the non-conformities will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points observed.
