The audit was conducted on 2 December 2020 and formed part of our processing of Chrysaor’s application for exploration-drilling consent for wells 15/12-25 and 15/12-26. These are the company’s first drilling operations as an operator on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to verify the company’s capabilities, in respect of the management of health, safety and the environment (HSE) and emergency preparedness, in the planning and preparations for undertaking their first drilling operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Compliance with the requirements concerning the management of health, safety and the environment was followed up during the audit, with reference to the Management Regulations, section 6 on the management of health, safety and the environment, and the Framework Regulations, section 17 on the duty to establish, follow up and further develop a management system.

In addition, the company had to show that it has safety margins sufficient for handling unforeseen incidents that may occur during the drilling operations.

Result

The audit did not identify any non-conformities, but we observed three matters that we have opted to classify as improvement points. These are:

  • Overview of fulfilled competence requirements for suppliers
  • Internal requirements in own management system for the well delivery process
  • Follow-up of pore pressure estimation and formation strength

What happens next?

We have asked Chrysaor to provide us with their assessment of the improvement points observed by 15 February 2021.
