The audit was conducted on 14 August 2019.

Background

PGNiG has applied for consent to drill exploration well 6509/5-9 S in production licence 838 in the Norwegian Sea. This is the company’s first own-operated exploration well on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The audit formed part of our processing of the application for consent.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to investigate the company’s robustness in terms of the management of health, safety and the environment (HSE) in planning and preparing the initial exploration well on the NCS.

Result

Our main impression is that PGNiG is equipped to undertake the drilling activity within the regulatory framework covering the management of HSE and emergency preparedness.

We did however observe improvement points within the following areas:

  • Use of own management system in following up changes
  • Use of own management system for non-conformity handling
  • Follow-up of internal requirements for the exploration drilling activity

What happens now?

We have asked the company for their assessment of the improvement points observed. The deadline for feedback is set at 16 September 2019.
