Objective

Statoil is the operator of the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea, about 155 kilometres west of Karmøy in Rogaland county. The field is under development, and production is planned to start in late 2019.

An audit during the design engineering and construction of facilities is highly important, since it is in these phases that key parameters are defined for prudent operations once the facilities are put into use.

The audit of the design engineering of the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform was carried out on 26 and 27 January 2017. The audit was performed at the offices of the supplier Aibel in Asker.

The objective of the audit was to:

  • follow-up the planning and execution of the project with a primary emphasis on design engineering of the main load-bearing structures, risers and associated process-safety systems
  • follow-up Statoil's follow-up of suppliers
  • monitor that the project has been planned and carried out in compliance with applicable regulations and recognised norms, and that requirements in the HSE regulations are provided for.

Result

No non-conformities were detected during this audit.

Three improvement points were identified concerning learning and experience transfer, non-conformity handling and the company's own follow-up.
