Background and objective

Askeladden is a new jack-up facility of the Cat J type. Statoil owns the facility, while KCA Deutag Drilling Norge (KCAD) is the operator.

KCAD has applied for Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the facility and Statoil has applied for consent to use it on the Gullfaks field.

Since this is the first time the facility will have been used, we wanted to audit how Statoil is ensuring that the facility is suitable for use on the Gullfaks field.

We wished to gain an insight into the geophysical surveys, specifications, structural analyses and verifications, with an emphasis on the site-specific conditions.

The audit was conducted on 14 and 15 September 2017 at Statoil's Forus premises and at GustiMSC in Schiedam, in the Netherlands.

Result

No regulatory non-conformities were identified. We identified one improvement point relating to deficiencies in the analyses and have asked Statoil for feedback on their assessment of this.
