The objective of the audit was to verify that Statoil is choosing robust anchor line solutions and that the company is monitoring the fabrication of chain and fibre rope in compliance with the regulations.

Result

No non-conformities were identified.

Two improvement points were identified in connection with:

  • Competence and qualification

Statoil has been given a deadline of 24 August 2015 to report on how the improvement points will be dealt with.

Aasta Hansteen is located in the northern Norwegian Sea, around 300 km west of Bodø and 140 km north of the Norne field. Water depth is 1300 metres. The development includes a manned floating production facility of the Spar type.

The Spar concept is new to Norway, but has been used in other countries. Aasta Hansteen will be the largest facility of this type built so far. The Spar facility will be anchored by 17 lines. Each line will combine steel chain and fibre rope. The anchor lines' lifetime will be 25 years.
