The operation of oil and gas installations on the continental shelf entails a need for repairs and improvements to load-bearing structures due to damage, degradation or the need for greater load-bearing capacity. The need for repairs increases with the age of the structures.

Repairs are often costly and complicated, because they must be carried out on the field, preferably without affecting production. This makes it important that the repair solutions used are robust, so as to avoid future damage in the same part or area.

The mapping of repair methods and their characteristics is based on DNV GL's experience and expertise, as well as a literature review and a working meeting with participants on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The working meeting was organised by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway in order to survey experiences of the repair of load-bearing structures. Eight participants in all presented experiences and examples of repair projects on their facilities. Some of the imagery from these repairs is reproduced in this report.
