The meeting covered three main topics:
- Hiring: The topic covered the regulations for hiring and how Equinor ensures that its practices comply with Norwegian law. Havtil is aware that questions are being raised about the legality of contracts with temporary-work agencies for Melkøya/Hammerfest LNG. The key principle is that all employees – regardless of form of employment – must have a safe working environment.
- Chemical working environment: The topic covered occupational health risks associated with chemical exposure. Through its audits, Havtil has identified regulatory breaches and a need for improvements to systems and practices in this domain at Equinor. We emphasized in the meeting the importance of conducting surveys and exposure measurements for benzene.
- Reorganisation at Equinor: The topic included changes planned within Equinor’s organisation and the implementation thereof. Havtil has previously stressed that such processes must take proper account of HSE risks.
- We found the meeting to be constructive. Equinor listened to our signals, and we had a good dialogue about challenges and expectations in these areas. It is important that Equinor handles these issues correctly – whether they concern hiring, the chemical working environment or organisational changes – so as to protect safety and the working environment,” says Havtil’s Director General Sigve Knudsen, who confirms that Havtil will be monitoring how Equinor addresses these matters moving forward.
