A person was struck in the upper body as drilling equipment was being lifted. The person received first aid at the scene and was transported onshore by SAR helicopter for further treatment.

Deepsea Nordkapp is owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling and received an AoC in 2019.

Investigation

Havtil takes a serious view of the incident, and has launched an investigation. The purpose of the investigation is to clarify the chain of events and underlying causes, so that both the industry and the authorities can learn from the incident.   

Through the investigation, we will:

  • Carefully review the chain of events.
  • Assess the actual and potential consequences.
  • Assess direct and underlying causes.
  • Identify non-conformities and improvement points in respect of the regulations (and internal requirements).
  • Publish the results of the investigation.
  • Contribute to the transfer of experience and lessons learned to other industry participants.

The investigation will be summarised in a report to be published on havtil.no.
