The Hammerfest LNG onshore plant is located on the island of Melkøya in Finnmark. The facility's operator is Equinor.

On the basis of incidents of chemical exposure and Equinor’s handling and follow-up of incidents and alerts, Havtil has now begun an investigation.

The investigation will interface and be coordinated with our ongoing investigation into a fall incident at Hammerfest LNG (24 April 2025). 

For the investigation, we will:

  • assess Equinor’s handling and follow-up of incidents and alerts
  • identify regulatory non-conformities and improvement points
  • use necessary sanctions to rectify any breaches of the regulations
  • publish the results of the investigation
  • contribute to the transfer of knowledge and lessons learned to other industry participants

The investigation will be summarised in a report to be published on havtil.no.
