For some types of work equipment, training from a certified enterprise is required. The employer shall ensure that employees using the work equipment in the list set out in the regulations have training from a certified enterprise.

From 15 January 2022, the Regulations concerning the performance of work, Sections 10-1, 10-2 and 10-3 apply to anyone working on petroleum activities.

Through the Samarbeidsrådet for petroleum (cooperative council on petroleum industry training), the PSA has drawn up training plans for the certified training of offshore crane operators. We have also prepared a number of training plans for documented safety training, with reference to the requirements in Section 10-2, Requirement for documented safety training when using work equipment.

Offshore cranes

On 1 April 2022, the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority updated Section 10-3 of the Regulations concerning the performance of work by adding offshore cranes. Documented safety training provided by certified training companies will be valid from this date.

Transitional arrangement for old training plans

Crane operator training with a certificate of competence provided under the old scheme will remain valid assuming the requirement for three-yearly updates is maintained.
