The deficiency concerns fire doors that are certified to MED (Marine Equipment Directive) modules B and D and type-approved by DNV GL. Corrective measures have been implemented in the production of new doors. Fire doors manufactured after 4 July 2014 must comply with a valid certificate.
A suggested repair of installed doors with missing insulation is described in a letter from COSMO CO., Ltd. Testing of the doors is in progress and recommended repair methods may change after the tests have been completed. The expected date for completion of test results and a repair proposal is late September 2017.
We request that the company evaluates this information in respect of its own installations. We will be following up on this matter in our audits.
