From 13 October to 23 November 2025, the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) will be conducting a survey as part of the long-running RNNP project, on trends in risk level in the Norwegian petroleum activities. We cordially invite all offshore and onshore employees to participate.

Weak risk management of AI in high-hazard industry

Artificial intelligence can create new safety risks in the petroleum industry. High uncertainty calls for a cautious approach when developing and deploying the technology. Havtil is seeing worrying examples of weak risk management, especially when the solutions are developed by specialists without adequate knowledge of major accident risk.

Polish version of video about fall incident at Mongstad

In January 2023, there was a serious work accident at Equinor’s Mongstad facility. While installing frame scaffolding, a scaffolder fell 23.5 metres onto a concrete floor and was severely injured. The video of Havtil's investigation of the incident is now available with Polish subtitles.

Warnings issued over dangerous practices in scaffold construction

Deformed and broken scaffolding elements, and fittings that cannot withstand use as fall arrest anchors. This is a potential outcome when mixing scaffolding elements from different manufacturers.

Equinor has complied with Havtil’s order regarding Hammerfest LNG

On 20 June 2025, the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) issued an order to Equinor to ensure and document prudence of activities before resumption of work in area L201 at Hammerfest LNG. Equinor has now complied with the order.
