The length of the working day has a significant impact on the risk of exposure to noise, chemicals and mechanical stress. In recent years, the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) has observed excessive use of overtime in the petroleum industry to an extent which gives cause for concern.

45 years since the Kielland disaster

On March 27 1980, the unthinkable happened. The living quarters platform, Alexander L. Kielland, collapsed and toppled over - far south in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. 212 people were onboard. 123 never returned home.
